Curious by nature, I love to share what I learn. And I’ve always loved the power of words. So, I write. For more than 20 years, I’ve put my curiosity and writing to productive use, working in communications, publishing, and politics. I added freelancing to the mix of staff jobs in 1998. In 2002, I hung out my virtual shingle and began freelancing fulltime.
I craft timely, compelling content that engages and motivates a variety of audiences--B2C, consumers, alumni, patients, employees, donors, healthcare professionals and association members. I write about health; financial wellness; caregiving; safety; college readiness; career development; and lifestyle topics. My first editorial job was at a construction association publication, where I actually wrote about building bridges. My content wheelhouse occasionally includes commercial construction, home improvement, and real estate.
I'm a visual thinker. When I work with a publication or content client, I envision the finished project. I worked on staff for several publications, so I understand the importance of layout, graphics, fonts, photography, and story packaging to the final product. I also understand the importance of a client’s unique voice, mission, and values, and ensure that these elements remain consistent in the content I create.
When you hire me, that’s what you’ll get. An expert source once told me I was the best interviewer he’s had since Katie Couric. On any given topic, I do my homework. I secure the right, expert sources. I research the latest studies. For health content, I know the difference between science-based information and pseudo-science. I never use the latter.
I hold a B.A. in English, minor in French studies from Trinity College, Washington, DC; and an M.I.A. (Master in International Affairs), with a concentration in media and communication, from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, New York.
I enjoy gardening, baking, and planning my next trip. A native of Massachusetts, I now live outside Chicago with my husband, son, and three cats. I'm a hockey/soccer mom and Friends of the Library volunteer.
