I thrive on helping editors and clients identify ways to reach their target audience and bridge editorial gaps. Empathy is at the heart of my writing. I never lose sight of the people behind the health statistics, and the clinicians and researchers on the front lines of care.
Affecting change for the better is what I strive for with my journalism and content.
My cover story, "Health at Risk: Washington physicians see the toll of climate change," for WSMA Reports/Washington State Medical Association, won a 2020 Silver EXCEL Award from Association Media & Publishing. I'm equally proud that my feature on the Testicular Cancer Foundation for Costco Connections generated over 1,000 requests for the foundation's cancer detection shower cards.
I understand how communications departments work. Before going freelance, I served on the editorial staff of associations in construction, government, and higher education. I still write about those areas, especially when there's a health tie-in, like occupational safety or regulatory changes impacting medical education.
I hold a Master's in International Affairs, with a concentration in media and communication, from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs; and a Bachelor's in English from Trinity College, Washington, DC.
In my spare time, I serve as judge for the annual ASJA Awards in nonfiction journalism, and on ASJA's communications committee, helping with social media content creation. I'm based in Greater Chicago.
